The Set Is the New Evening Dress — and AMRHEA Makes the Best Case for It

Forget the little black dress. This year the most-wanted evening piece on WONROB comes in two parts — and it is by AMRHEA, the independent UAE label that makes a...

There is a quiet shift happening in evening dressing. The one-and-done gown, worn once and photographed once, is giving way to something more useful and, frankly, more interesting: the set. A top and a skirt cut from the same cloth, designed to be worn together for the big night — and then pulled apart, restyled and worn again. On WONROB, nobody does it better than AMRHEA. Of everything our customers bought from the label this year, the bestseller was not a dress at all, but a two-piece.

The piece in question is the Chiara Set: a cropped satin top in the palest pink, with spaghetti straps and a square neckline, over a low-slung pencil skirt that skims to mid-calf. Both pieces are edged in black eyelash lace, so the effect is lingerie-adjacent but never literal — more dinner reservation than boudoir. It is a good introduction to how AMRHEA works: a familiar idea, executed with one precise twist.

Who is AMRHEA?

AMRHEA is an independent womenswear label based in the United Arab Emirates. The brand sets out to marry contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship, for women who value quality, authenticity and independence. In practice, that means close, sculpted silhouettes; backs that are open, draped or held by a single gold-tone clasp; and small pieces of hardware — a buckle, a brooch, an attached choker — that do the work of jewellery.

Why a set beats a dress

The argument is mostly arithmetic. A dress is one look; a set is at least three — together, the top on its own, the skirt on its own. AMRHEA’s sets also lean into the low-rise skirt, the silhouette of the moment, and leave a sliver of midriff between the two pieces, which reads as modern rather than revealing when the rest of the look is covered and long.

There is a practical advantage, too. Sizing a top and a skirt from the same set is easier than finding one dress that fits shoulders, waist and hips equally well — and the fluid and stretch fabrics AMRHEA favours are forgiving where a structured gown is not.

Match the pieces once. Then never wear them the same way twice.

The AMRHEA sets to know

For a strong shoulder: Mylena

The most architectural of the edit. The black cropped top has built-in shoulder pads and a crew neck; the low-rise maxi skirt is cut with angular openings at the hip that frame the waist. Wear it with nothing more than gold hoops and pointed heels — the shape is the statement.

For a ceremony by the sea: Delana

An off-white two-piece with a high gathered neck, voluminous long sleeves finished with gold buttons at the cuff, and an open back that ties. The maxi skirt has a wide waistband and a high side slit. Covered at the front, bare at the back: ideal for formal events and resort evenings (if you are a wedding guest, leave this one for another occasion).

For after dark: Lola

A draped cropped top with long sheer sleeves, a deep front opening and a tie at the neck, over a gathered low-rise maxi skirt with a high slit. The most romantic of the sets — and the easiest to split, since the skirt works just as well with a fitted black knit.

How to wear it — and wear it again

Night one: as designed. Keep accessories minimal and metallic; most AMRHEA pieces already carry gold-tone hardware, so one pair of earrings is enough.

Night two: the top, recast. A lace or draped top over tailored black trousers or a straight-leg jean becomes a dinner look with almost no effort. The Alessia Top — a cropped shirt in sheer stretch lace with a pointed collar — is made for exactly this.

Night three: the skirt, dressed down. A long, low-slung skirt with a fine-gauge knit or a crisp white shirt knotted at the waist is the kind of contrast that looks deliberate. The ruched Alessia Skirt, with its gold-tone buckle strap at the hip, works with almost anything black.

If you still want a dress

AMRHEA’s dresses share the same DNA — and the same obsession with the back. The Scarlett Dress is the one to invest in: 100% silk, a halter that ties at the neck, a fully open back and an asymmetric wrap hem edged in black lace, in black or red.

For warm-weather evenings, the chiffon Thea Dress (halter, scarf tie, tiered mini skirt) and the one-shouldered Renata slip dress each come in three colours; for a gala, the floor-length Aeris has a detachable scarf that doubles as a cape, and a starfish brooch at the open back.

A note on fit

Most AMRHEA pieces come in XS to L and are cut to sit close to the body. Stretch-jersey styles follow the figure; chiffon and silk are more forgiving. Low-rise skirts are designed to sit below the navel; check the measurements on each product page before choosing your size.
